The Lower Division Permanent Substitute is a member of the school’s Lower Division and reports to the Lower Division Head. This full-time position comes with the responsibility of working as a bus monitor and with faculty and staff to support the lower division in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • On campus during school hours (7:45 am - 4:45 pm) to fulfill any predetermined or as-needed coverage
  • Respond to last-minute requests for coverage
  • Collaborate with teachers and Divisional Administrative Assistants to fully understand and implement lesson plans while the teacher is absent, including preparation outside of classroom time and administrative classroom tasks (i.e: attendance, reporting)
  • Effective and respectful classroom management skills
  • Communicate with teachers around student behavior and curriculum progress while covering
  • Helping with recess, lunch, and other duties in the Division when available
  • Meaningfully integrate technologies into class lessons for student learning and growth, as directed by the lead teacher 
  • Establish and implement expectations for student safety, conduct, procedures, and routines consistent with Park School policies 
  • Participate in all school activities and events (e.g., Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Yule festival, May Day etc.) 
  • Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community, which may include engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development
  • Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social-emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of The Park School
  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations

Bus Duty 

  • Oversee the  attendance, safety, and drop-off of students on the bus
  • Ride the bus with students (3:05 on M, T, Th, & F, and 2:10 on W), return to school, and oversee attendance for the later bus (4:30) on M, T, Th, & F
  • Follow up on any incidents with division administrators 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the elementary school level is preferred.
  • Ability and flexibility to adapt to different classrooms and student needs.  
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with students, colleagues, and other adults. 
  • Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments, communicating with families, and other school-related documents.
  • ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching, learning, and community & experience in working in a culturally diverse school.
  • Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and innovative practices that support student growth.
  • Skill in differentiating instruction for individual needs in the classroom
  • Ability to think independently and problem solve.
  • Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner. 
  • The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet).
  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the School, such as Veracross, Atlas, etc. 
 

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
  • The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs. 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.

  • The annual compensation for this role is $57,964.00. Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees received, years of teaching experience,  and other considerations permitted by law.
