About the Park School

 

The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA, dedicated to excellence in education. The After School Drama Assistant is a member of the school’s Drama Department, reporting to the Drama Director, and supports the school’s three mainstage productions in collaboration with the Director. This stipend role runs September through May, meeting Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 2:45–4:45 p.m., with additional hours leading up to and during the final two weeks of each production. Additional hours include two weekend half-days, two Wednesday afternoons, and extended hours until 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. during tech week.

This is an excellent opportunity for budding directors, theater educators, or drama enthusiasts seeking a flexible role that offers mentorship and growth while contributing to a thriving after-school drama program. This role may be taken on for one or more seasons.

 

Responsibilities

On any given day, the Drama Assistant may be asked to:

  • Facilitate warm-ups and games
  • Lead art projects (props, puppets, set painting)
  • Support discipline, focus, and engagement
  • Supervise and manage students off stage
  • Work with small groups to rehearse scenes or develop characters
  • Take notes, make copies, organize groups, and oversee snack time
  • Check students in and out for the day
     

Above all, being a communicator, self-starter, and initiator is paramount.

With the support of the Tech Director, the Drama Assistant will act as the “Stage Manager” backstage and onstage during tech week and performances, helping keep students calm, quiet, and organized. In this capacity, they will collaborate on backstage expectations, routines, and practices.

Production Dates:

Fall: September 4-November 23, 2025 (performances November 21 & 22) 

Winter Musical: December 1, 2025-March 8, 2026 (performances March 5-7) 

Spring One-Act: March 30-May 10, 2026 (performances May 8 & 9)

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for working with elementary and middle school-aged children
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in theater production, stage management, or working with young performers is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults, organizational, and communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills, a positive attitude that allows one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others
  • Flexibility in Schedule 
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing support to students and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds 
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time.
  • The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to consistently operate a computer. Proficient or the ability to quickly learn  Google tools and other school software. 
  • The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs. 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.

  • The compensation range for this role is a one-time stipend of $ 2,600-$ 8,000.  Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to, external market data, internal equity, skillset, experience, and/or performance, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive compensation details, inclusive any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
