About the Park School 

 

The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The Afternoon Flexible Teacher Support role reports to the Director of After-School Operations & After-School Program Coordinator. This 10-month position comes with the responsibility of providing bus support coverage as necessary and teaching in the After School Program in support of the school’s mission. The hours are 3:00-5:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 2:00-4:00 on Wednesday and 11:00-5:00 on Friday. 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Arrive promptly, ready to support either the transportation program or ASP 
  • When providing coverage for the Transportation Program, responsibilities include: 
    • Take attendance before bus departure
    • Find any missing students before bus departure 
    • Manage student behavior on the bus ride
    • Share info about student behavior with Asst. Division Heads, as necessary
    • Connect students with caregiver when students exit the bus
    • Communicate with the School and Families, as necessary
    • Build community on the bus 
  • When providing support to the After-School Program (ASP), responsibilities include:
    • Actively engage and interact with ASP students 
    • Assure the safety and well-being of ASP students at all times
    • Guide students in their social-emotional development, maintaining expectations and support for positive and productive student behavior  

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required 
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred 
  • Experience teaching, preferably Early Childhood 
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing support to students and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds 
  • Experience integrating the use of academic technology into classroom teaching 
  • Design, organize and implement daily age appropriate activities 
  • Experience in classroom management 
  • Demonstrate flexibility in day to day schedule 
  • Experience communicating with parents, colleagues and administrators 
 

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel) to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
